In honour of the launch of CraveTV on Thursday, December 11, six Canadians are preparing to break the Guinness World Record for Longest TV-Watching Marathon starting at 1pm ET today. To beat the record currently held by Erik Pettersson of Sweden, they’ll have to watch for 91 hours straight, meaning if they manage to stay sane and not turn into some sort of Gollum-like creature in the process, the record should be achieved on Friday, December 12 at 8am ET. The participants are permitted a five-minute break for every full hour of marathon-watching completed and they can then save these breaks and use them back-to-back at any point.

This could be one of our participants after 91 hours.

Luckily, they’ll be watching some of CraveTV’s most popular programs, and with shows like The Sopranos, Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Big Bang Theory and more, the attempt will probably feel more like an amazing vacation than a grueling marathon unless they start arguing about who gets to hold the remote.

To add to the pressure, the six Cravers won’t be watching all these amazing shows in the comfort of their own living rooms. A highly visible, fully-functional living space has been constructed in the parking lot outside of Bell Media HQ at 299 Queen Street West to house the record attempt, so we’ll be able to watch as the participants slowly delve into madness and/or pure entertainment bliss over the next five days.

If you’re in the area head on over to check it out and cheer them on OR taunt them by NOT watching TV right in front of their faces! TSN’s Cabral ‘Cabbie’ Richards will host the kick-off at 1pm where the official Guinness World Records clock will activate, and knowing these types of events there will be giveaways and other fun things too.

If you’re not in the area but still want to see what happens, tune into the live stream for 24/7 coverage of the attempt. We know it’s going to be tough to pay attention once you start watching CraveTV on Thursday, so maybe just try to watch along with them, they'll need the support!
