Nearly 14 years have passed since Wet Hot American Summer arrived in theatres… and was promptly ignored by almost everyone. Fortunately, this inspired exercise in camp-based surrealism eventually found its audience, emerging as one of the supreme comic achievements of the ’00s. We’re guessing it also proved to be a streaming staple because Netflix decided to put its muscle behind a severely belated TV series sequel entitled Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp.
Little is known about this WHAS revival—and the new teaser doesn’t do much to change that. In fact, this may be the least revealing teaser we’ve ever seen. But let’s face it, any time spent listening to “Higher and Higher” (the faux ’80s anthem from the original) is time well spent.
If nothing else, this teaser offers a comprehensive cast list, confirming that nearly everyone from the original is back. Returning cast members include Elizabeth Banks, Michael Ian Black, Bradley Cooper, Janeane Garofalo, Joe Lo Truglio, Ken Marino, Christopher Meloni, Marguerite Moreau, Zak Orth, Amy Poehler, David Hyde Pierce, Paul Rudd, Molly Shannon, and Michael Showalter. They may have moved on to bigger things, but you can’t do much better than Wet Hot American Summer.
First Day of Camp debuts on Netflix some time later this year (we’re guessing summer).

Today, Deadline reported that famous actors Chris Pine, Jon Hamm, Kristen Wiig and Jason Schwartzman will also be joining the cast. According to them “Hamm will play a secret spy, Wiig is playing a snobby counselor at the preppy rival camp Camp Tigerclaw, while Pine’s character is described as a mysterious.” No word on what Schwartzman will be playing, probably because he has more than one syllable in his last name.
