Like his Biblical namesake*, Trevor Noah has begun gathering all different types of comedians to join him on his ark (The Daily Show) ahead of his maiden voyage on September 28. Joining the storied Best F*&#ing News Team Ever is a diverse trio of comically-minded professionals who go by the names of Ronny Chieng, Desi Lydic and Roy Wood Jr.
Born in Malaysia and raised in New Hampshire and Singapore, Chieng is most well-known in Australia where he’s garnered all sorts of comedy-related accolades following a successful academic career where he obtained degrees in commerce and law. His smarts, humour and worldliness make him the perfect fit for a show that prides itself and being smart, funny and worldly.
Lydic is a seasoned improviser and actress having studied at the Improv Olympic and Groundlings theatres. If you’re wondering where you might’ve have seen her, she’s been in TV series like Awkward, The League, The Odd Couple and Two and a Half Men and movies such as We Bought A Zoo and Babymakers.
Roy Wood Jr. is a stand-up veteran who has been on virtually every show that great comedians get booked on including The Late Show with David Letterman, Conan, @midnight, Late Night with Seth Meyers, The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson, HBO’s Def Comedy Jam and Last Comic Standing. If you’re a Daily Show super fan and want to get better acquainted with Roy, check out Sullivan & Son on Comedy where he stars as a guy named Roy.
Said Noah: “I’m so excited to welcome these new members of the Daily Show Team. Now I get to share my stress with other new people.”
Noah will also be sharing his stress with Stewart-era holdovers Jordan Klepper, Hasan Minhaj, Jessica Williams, Lewis Black, John Hodgman, Al Madrigal, Aasif Mandvi and Kristen Schaal, who combined with these rookies form a very solid team heading into the big premiere.
