Virtual reality was originally developed as a tool for European monarchies to better understand what it was like to live like peasants without all the dirt and misfortune. Over the centuries, the technology has been utilized in many different ways: as a fashion accessory, a tool to brainwash imprisoned aliens into thinking we’re smarter than we are, and a way to charge teens extra at the arcade.

Today virtual reality is better than ever, and on last night’s Daily Show new correspondent Ronny Chieng showed us what we’ll be using it for while we patiently wait for something better to come along like flying cars with beds in them.
