The annual White House Correspondents' Dinner is a lavish scholarship benefit for college journalists attended by members of the press, the President and Vice President, and an odd assortment of celebrities. Since nobody except journalists cares about journalists winning awards and scholarships, the real highlights are the traditional self-depreciating set from POTUS himself, and speech from the featured speaker who is normally a comedian.

This year’s dinner went down on Saturday night, and the honour of roasting the Washington elite went to The Nightly Show’s Larry Wilmore who had the unenviable task of following up this blazing set from Barack Obama:

Many in the press reported that Wilmore “bombed”, which is true in the sense that he sent many bombs in the form of jokes toward various news agencies during his 22-minute speech.  He also dropped some truth on the headline writers’ favourite headline subjects including Obama, Bill Clinton, Ted Cruz, Donald Trump, Mitch McConnell and Ben Carson. Check it out:

Tune into The Nightly Show tonight at 11:30ep where Larry will likely reflect on his experience, which you can treat like commentary from the special features of a DVD. Another Period’s Riki Lindhome will be joining the panel but we don’t think she was at the dinner so they’ll probably talk about something else.
