A long time ago, in an American state relatively far away, an intelligent dweeb named George Lucas invented a movie that has created some of the most memorable toys of all time. One of those toys is Princess Leia, the heroic rebellion leader made famous by Carrie Fisher, who has cleared a considerable chunk of her summer schedule to make an appearance at Just For Laughs this summer!
Fisher will be hosting a multi-comic televised gala at the fest that is bound to include references to Star Wars, alcoholism, drug use, Hollywood, and other topics that she’s be very candid about in her award-winning Broadway Show and best-selling novel. The Carrie Fisher Comedy Gala will take place July 31, 7:00 pm, at Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier in Place Des Arts, and will hopefully include an appearance from Star Wars’ funniest character, that chubby guy who dies in the first one.
A JFL announcement is never limited to just one piece of good news, so we’re also happy to report that that incredible Sarah Silverman has been booked for one night only on July 30, 9:30 pm, at Maison Symphonique in Place Des Arts. She’s been working in comedy since she was eighteen and has accomplished everything a comedian can accomplish, so technically she doesn’t even really need to do this.
Also announced is a live edition of Dan Harmon’s Harmontown, which will go down July 30, 2:00 pm in the Hyatt Grand Salon Opera, a show from the legendary George Wallace happening July 28, 11:00 pm, at 5e Salle in Place des Arts, and a recording of the Industry Standard podcast with Barry Katz, who will take you inside Hollywood through the eyes and mouth of a comedy manager/producer.
Off-JFL is getting a boost as well with the additions of Finesse Mitchell, Brad Williams, Iliza Shlesinger, and Louie Anderson.
It seems impossible that they’ll be able to announce more acts, but this festival is so crazy that it’s probably going to happen so stay tuned, and head over to the aptly titled hahah.com to grab tix and more info.
