Another Canada Day has come and gone, which means it’s only a matter of time until stores start blasting “I’m Like a Bird” and “Turn Off the Light” even though Fur-ta-day is months away.
It must be especially confusing for American tourists who don’t realize that Canada bands together every December 2nd to officially mark award-winning songstress and B.C.-native Nelly Furtado’s birthday. Since our government is against using federal budget dollars to make other countries aware of unique major holidays, Conan writer and proud Canuck Levi MacDougall took matters into his own hands to show his famous American boss one of our lesser known traditions with the help of some Canadian humour and the Fur-ta-day national anthem.
Unfortunately the patriotic display never made it to air, likely due to strict American content regulations that ensure Canada is portrayed in as a socialist dystopia and not a Nelly Furtado-loving safe haven. Thanks to Team Coco’s Scraps series where outtakes and rehearsal moments are made public via the Internet, we can enjoy Levi’s display of national pride and start thinking about what to serve alongside the braised octopus for Fur-ta-day Dinner.

Watch Conan Monday - Thursday at 12:30E / 9:30P on Much!
