Over a year has passed since Comedy Central coordinated the vicious roasting of Justin Bieber, but the popular series finally returns next month with a new victim: ’80s heartthrob, Rob Lowe. After a respectable movie debut (playing Sodapop Curtis in Francis Ford Coppola’s The Outsiders), Lowe became one of the most prominent—and infamous—members of The Brat Pack. Those words are likely to come up repeatedly at the roast, as will his history of sex tapes, nanny controversies, and questionable movie choices, including the starring role in 2013’s Killing Kennedy, an adaptation of the shady bestseller ghost-written by Bill O'Reilly.
Lowe might also take heat for his crazy turn as mad scientist plastic surgeon Jack Startz in Behind the Candelabra, but if there’s any justice in the world, the roasters—including Jimmy Carr, Pete Davidson, Bo Derek, Peyton Manning, Rob Riggle, Jeff Ross, and Roast Master David Spade—will seize the opportunity to praise Lowe’s most daring performance.  Of course, it’s more likely they’ll pummel him with piercing cheap shots. So why did he agree to participate? “I love those roasts,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “They make me laugh. Look, maybe there's something wrong with me, but the meaner they are, the more I like it, and the people who can take it are my heroes.”
Find out if Rob Lowe is one of his own heroes when his Comedy Central Roast hits The Comedy Network on Monday, September 5th (aka Labour Day). For more nervous pre-roast chatter, watch Lowe and David Spade discuss the big event in the full Entertainment Tonight clip below.
