On the surface, a comedy competition is a lot like a cat competition: Very cute, includes a high likelihood of someone getting their eyes scratched out, and totally subjective. But a clash of comics is much more than just bragging rights and a funny trophy shaped like sailor farting on a duck, as a win can mean a big boost to a comedian’s career and bank account.
SiriusXM’s Top Comic contest is a grueling battle fought by Canada’s best and resulting in $25,000, a spot in JFL42, AND a Just For Laughs: All Access taping at next summer’s festival in Montreal. What started way back in May has resulted in eight semifinalists who will congregate in Toronto on September 29th to deliver their very best jokes during JFL42 where an ultimate champion will be crowned. Rather than take the time to copy and paste those lucky eight, we’ll instead use our advanced Internet technology to embed the announcement from SirusXM itself:

Congrats finalists! If you have a JFL42 pass you’ll definitely want to check out the finals at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, which will be hosted by the legendary Tom Green. It’ll give you the chance to check out some of the best comedians from across the country, and allow you to experience the elation of the winner as well as the utter heartbreak of the seven losers LIVE in person. See you there!
