Some of our favourite Canadian monopolies include P.E.I.’s stranglehold on the potato industry, Harvey’s uncontested command of the custom hamburger game, and the Tea Party’s decades-long reign as undisputed champions of goth-tinged folk rock. But the one the benefits us the most is Just For Laughs’ cross-Canada dominance in putting on incredible comedy festivals.
The main fest in Montreal is an industry benchmark that has launched the careers of pretty much every comic who’s hilarious, while JFL42 in Toronto has quickly risen to become a comedy nerd’s Valhalla. If that weren’t enough, last year they went and started a brand new festival in Vancouver called JFL NorthWest whose second iteration was just announced today, giving its older siblings something to be totally jealous of. How do they do it? Probably with money and organization, but that's a story for another day--check this thing out!
If this lineup is making you feel crazy with anticipation and a fear that somehow you’ll forget to buy tickets, stop what you’re doing right now, take a few deep breaths, and take advantage of the pre-sale. Your window starts at 10am PST today and runs until 10pm PST on Thursday, so long as you remember to use the secret pre-sale password, "JFLNWLOL!".
The boring old public on sale where you don’t even get to use a cool secret password starts December 2 at 10am PST. These tickets will make a great stocking stuffer or a nice little gift to yourself if everyone who is close to you doesn’t understand your tastes and always gets you things like ill-fitting mittens.
As a thank you for reading this far, here’s an embedded version of last night’s Daily Show hosted by festival performer Trevor Noah whom we guarantee will make you smile and swoon when you catch him live at the fest.
